ABOUT US

Foundations for Recovery is a project of community foundations to raise money for disaster relief and for rebuilding stronger and smarter after disasters, such as hurricanes and wildfires.

After Hurricane Katrina, the project raised more than $45 million for relief and recovery across South Louisiana, using money from donors around the world to pay for shelters, food and short-term needs. Then, the donations paid for strategies to build a stronger and smarter Louisiana to mitigate the effects of future disasters and to improve the quality of life.

Foundations for Recovery was begun by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, which plans to expand the project by bringing on more community foundations as partners.  Foundations that have joined the project are the Northshore Community Foundation, which serves civil parishes across from New Orleans, and the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana, which serves civil parishes in the Lake Charles region.

Foundations for Recovery lets community foundations pool resources to raise money, and to move rapidly to counter the disasters that have become more common in the United States.

Community foundations work to improve the quality of life for all people in its region. They connect philanthropists with exceptional nonprofits to make sure the needs of our neighbors are met.  For more on community foundations, visit COF.org.
